my story

This website is a place where I like to share my model aeroplane collection and experiences. All the models are radio controlled and range from 610mm to 3100mm.

I started building plastic static models in the 60’s as a child when I was first allowed to have glue unsupervised. The first one was the Airfix SR-N1 hovercraft and subsequently onto aircraft. I quickly tired of building dust collecting static models just to look at.

I WANTED FLIGHT!

I needed to fly and to interact with my models, I wanted to rip up some clouds and fly with the birdies. My first flying aircraft was the Mercury Mentor free-flight (no radio) rubber powered glider, long since gone. After a period of working at Keens Model Shop, High Wycombe and earning money as a schoolboy I could afford radio control, I was truly bitten by the building/flying bug.

I have a small collection (not my wife’s opinion of course) of very different planes that I choose to fly as my mood takes me, each one with different attributes and characteristics, and yes I talk to them. All this floats my boat, or whatever the aviation term is for this and this is where I can share my passion.

So here we go…

Currently I am a member of the BMFA (British Model Flying Association and am covered by their insurance to fly my model aircraft. I gained my ‘Fixed Wing A’ certificate in 2003.

I have CAA Operators Registration.

I belong to the following clubs as at 2023:

SEBRFC South East Berkshire Radio Flying Club

HWDMAC – High Wycombe & District Model Aircraft Club
